Because every student might be the secret pick, the whole class tends to lift its behavior and participation just in case, a subtle, low-pressure way to encourage effort without singling anyone out in the moment. It works especially well with classes that respond to a bit of friendly mystery. Select your secret student before the bell and reveal the result as a small celebration at the end of the period.
